iOS 8.0.1, Blackberry Passport, and Bendable iPhone 6+
The iPhone 6+ can bend very easily if put into a pocket, iOS 8.0.1 had bugs that caused people’s phones to stop being able to connect to cellular data, and the Blackberry Passport was unveiled. It has been quite a week.
According to the TC Gadgets Podcast, the iPhone 6+ can bend if put under enough pressure. While this seems to have upset some, this turned out not to be too big of a deal. To me, this doesn’t matter because I will be getting the iPhone 6. For me, the 6+ is too big. I think the 5C can bend a little bit because mine seems to have bent slightly, but it’s hard to tell for sure. In any case, I still plan to get the iPhone 6.
The bigger issue for this week is the buggy release of iOS 8.0.1. Although I did not actually download the update, I heard a lot about it this week. It is scary that, in an effort to fix some bugs that were in iOS 8.0, that Apple rushed to release an update that caused more problems than it was worth. It is good that I did not know about iOS 8.0.1 until it had already been pulled because I am one of those people who likes to download the update on the day it is released. If I had done that, I would have had to deal with the loss of LTE and WiFi, and I would have had to scramble to downgrade or do something else to fix the problems. If I was a person thinking about switching from some other platform to the iPhone and iOS, this would have been a deal-breaker for me.
The Blackberry Passport was unveiled this week, and the reviews of it so far have not been great. I admit, I don’t know much about the Blackberry Passport, but to me, it just seems like Blackberry is doing whatever it can to try to get back into a market that has now been taken over by Android and iOS. Other articles I have read claim that Blackberry is targeting business users rather than the average consumer, but even in that case, Android and iOS are a lot more common. I only know one person who has a Blackberry, and she has been using it for years. Who knows how this will turn out for Blackberry? Only time will tell.

Nice roundup. The iOS bug certainly caused some major problems! And yes, the new Blackberry Passport is interesting, but I'm with you. I don't think it will do well other than with those people who are still Blackberry users. (I used to have a Blackberry and there are days I definitely miss having a "real" keyboard!)
